How to do permanent hair straightening at home INSTRUCTIONS IN ENGLISH

Choose the developing time according to your hair structure:

Wella Wellastrate Hair Straightening Cream:

  • Wellastrate Intense: Use only for Normal to natural Hair

Permanent hair straightening at home for ALL OTHER BRANDS

For all other brands, please refer to the manufacturer instructions, or if not known choose the Wella Straight It developing times.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL STRAIGHTENING CREAM BRANDS

FIRST TREATMENT for permanent hair straightening at home:

IMPORTANT MUST READ: How to do a hair treatment allergy test

  • Wash your hair one day prior when using the straightening product (Do NOT use any Conditioners before straightening treatment)
  • Do not wash your hair as the product needs to be applied to unwashed hair
  • Protect your areas of neck, ears with a skin cream

PREPARATION for permanent hair straightening at home:

  • Divide your dry or towel dry hair in 4 to 6 equals parts, beginning a the neck.
  • Divide the dry hair and working from section to section applying sufficient quantity of straightening cream with a brush or comb through, but do not rinse out.
  • Distribute equally from root to ends of the hair

STRAIGHTENING for permanent hair straightening at home:

Fill a non-metallic bowl with the appropriate cream of ready to use straightening cream and apply carefully with a brush/comb, working from section to section (approx. 1 cm wide) at a distance of approx. 5 mm from the head. Comb through just once and carefully with a large-toothed comb

DEVELOPING TIME for permanent hair straightening at home:

see above for the different brands and formulas

  • The hair must be covered during the developing time
  • Please take into account the fact that the product is already starting to take effect during the application period and check progress after the specified minimum time has elapsed.
  • Comb the hair once again with a large toothed comb
  • Rinse out the straightening cream thoroughly
  • Press out any excess moisture with a towel

If you prefer a hot permanent hair straightening at home procedure using a ceramic straightening iron, starting from neck, divide the hair into 1cm wide sections. Straighten the individual sections in even strokes with the iron. Slide through each strand approx. 1 or 2 times. Do not keep the iron in one place for more than 3 seconds

  • Temperature of the straightening iron:
  • Wella Mild: 150 C (ProHeat Setting 3)
  • Wella Intense: 180 C (ProHeat Setting 4)
  • Schwarzkopf (0): Temperature of the iron: 150 C (ProHeat Setting 3)
  • Schwarzkopf STRONG: Temperature of the iron: 180 C (ProHeat Setting 4)
  • Nigao: 150 C (ProHeat Setting 3 for stressed hair) / 180-200 C for normal, curly hair

NEUTRALIZING for permanent hair straightening at home:

  • Fill up the applicator with ready to use Neutralizer Emulsion using the same quantity as of the straightening cream used previously
  • Apply carefully working from section to section
  • Comb the hair and allow 10 minutes of developing time
  • Shampoo hair afterwards

AFTER TREATMENT for permanent hair straightening at home

Use a good hair treatment mask and leave it in for 3 – 5 minutes

TIP FOR SHORT HAIR

For short or less curly hair do not use a hot iron and carry on with the treatment as a cold permanent hair straightening at home version without using heat. The developing time can be extended by 5 minutes.

REGROWTH TREATMENT (ROOTS)

In the case of regrowth treatment, only treat the sections of the hair subject to regrowth (the roots). In this case the regrowth should amount at least approx. 4 cm. Pay attention beforehand to thoroughly protecting the lengths and ends that have already been treated with the preparation cream

CAUTION for permanent hair straightening at home:

  • Product contains thioglycolate and Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Avoid eye and skin contact and wear gloves
  • The straightening cream is not recommended for bleached hair which is more than 30% highlighted or extremely porous
  • Do not use the product if the hair color contains metallic salt (normally with natural colors like Henna)
  • Do not use if your hair has been already treated with an alkali relaxer containing Sodium Hydroxide. This also applies to “Hydroxide-free” products containing POTASSIUM HYSROXIDE, LITHIUM HYDROXIDE, GUANIDINE CARBONATE
  • A repeat straightening procedure should be done earliest after one week
